Бившият британски премиер Тони Блеър ще отправи предупреждение днес срещу евентуално напускане на Европейския съюз от страна на Великборитания с аргумента, че подобен ход би довел до загуба на британското влияние в международен мащаб, съобщи Bloomberg, като се позова на извадки от подготвяна за произнасяне реч, разпространени от пресслужбата на бившия премиер.

В Лондон Блеър ще заяви, че Великобритания може да напусне ЕС, само за да прекара 20 години в опити да бъде приета отново. Според него страната е по-обвързана в момента с ЕС, отколкото е била с предшественика на организацията, когато той бе основан след Втората Световна война.

„Тогава обосновката бе мирът. Днес това е силата“, смята той. „Тогава ставаше дума за континент, опустошен от войната, в който Германия бе агресорът, а Великобритания – победителят. Днес става дума за свят, в който глобалната геополитика претърпява най-голямата си промяна от векове“, сочат извадките от речта му.

Блеър се обявяваше в подкрепа на оставането на Великобритания в ЕС през 10-те години, в които бе премиер и лидер на Лейбъристката партия.

Настоящият премиер Дейвид Камерън от Консервативната партия също подкрепя членството, макар да твърди, че е дошло времето за предоговаряне на условията и че резултатите от това предоговаряне трябва да бъдат подложени на референдум.

В основата на проблема за британското членство в ЕС напоследък е бюджетът на общността за 2014-2020 г., за който Великобритания предлага съкращаване, докато Европейската комисия иска той да бъде разширен.
